New Requirements for Boaters Transiting New York Waters
As of January 1, 2025, all boaters need a boating safety certificate from a NASBLA-Approved Course to transit through New York. Alabama also recently implemented a similar requirement, and other states are phasing this in. Plan to schedule your course before you leave the dock on your Great Loop!
New Jersey has had this same requirement for many years and a similar law took effect in Alabama last year. We can expect other states to follow suit.
To earn a certificate, visit www.NASBLA.org to find the approved courses in your home state. States that require a certificate for transiting boaters will recognize a NASBLA approved course from another state.
